THE LEVEE

Chicago’s First Ward, ‘The Levee’, was a tantalizing, nefarious and incredibly dangerous place in the 1890’s, and the arrival of the Columbian Exposition made it even more popular among men whose curiosity ran along the lines of deprave sexual adventure, games of chance and drink. ¬†In the words of an old¬†Chicago judge: “If you go down to the Levee, you deserve everything you get.”
